Ask a child to draw a tree. You will probably end up with a brown trunk and green leaves. Maybe some nascent roots. Children are so materialistic.

Ask a botanist to define one. It’s a plant that lives for more than one season and has a trunk. A precisely vague definition, scientists don’t like to be proven wrong.

Ask a lumberjack. The trunk has to be made of wood. For practical purposes, it also has a minimum height.

Ask a cat. You might not get an answer. It’s just the place where flying prey is. Avoid its shade when it’s cold.

What will artificial intelligence care about? Will it care at all?
