Hope is a Christian virtue. The expectation of an everlasting life.

In our secular society, hope is still there despite the death of god. We might not expect everlasting life, but we hope for a better world. If not for ourselves for others, or vice-versa.

Looking around, it is painfully obvious that most hopes are delusions. But since hope is a virtue, we feel entitled to impose our delusions onto others. We start trading delusions: accept mine and I’ll accept yours. Or reject it and suffer the social consequences.

What a beautiful web of lies we have rebuilt. A fertile ground for future hopes.
